Emergency Medicine – 15 month Locum opportunity, Emergency Department (E.D.), Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Prince Edward Island

•    The E.D. serves a catchment area of approximately 60,000 people with an annual visit volume of 38,000 emergency visits (approximately 115/day, and higher in the summer) with an admission rate of 15 pts/day on average.
•    The E.D. benefits from access to digital radiology including plain files, CT and U/S.
•    The QEH is a 243 bed regional hospital with an eight bed ICU that provides specialty services in Internal Medicine, General Surgery, Anesthesia, Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Pediatrics, ENT, Neurology, Psychiatry, Pathology, Ophthalmology, Physical Medicine and Rehab and Urology.
•    The QEH has on site all services except vascular surgery and neurosurgery which have transfer protocols in place for Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick.

•    The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Emergency Department is seeking a Physician for a 15 month locum.


•    Physician shall be paid at a sessional rate of $175 per hour.  Hours of work shall be as outlined in the ED call schedule.
•    28% of fee-for-service shadow billing based on the Master Agreement between the Medical Society of PEI, the Government of Prince Edward Island and Health PEI.  For details refer to the Master Agreement


•    Return travel based on economy airfare.  If traveling by car, mileage rates are determined by PEI Treasury Board Policy and cannot exceed economy airfare.
•    Coverage of licensing fees with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI and the Medical Society of PEI.
•    Locum support stipend to offset the cost of accommodations and other living expenses:  $200/day worked June-September and $150/day worked October-May.  Physicians must complete the Locum Support Stipend Form to receive these funds.
•    Arrangements and payment for car rental and accommodations are the responsibility of the physician.


•    Physician must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of PEI.
•    Physician must possess emergency department experience.
•    Physician must have toxicology experience.
•    Preference to FRCP (EM) candidates first then CCFP (EM).
