Physician Recruitment
Mission
To provide adequate health care in all communities in Prince Edward Island to promote, maintain and improve the health of its residents and to enhance the career, education opportunities and personal life of its physicians.
Introduction
Prince Edward Island is located on the east coast of Canada with a population of approximately 140,000 residents. The Island is 224 kilometers long and is connected to the mainland by the Confederation Bridge, which is the world’s longest bridge (12.9 km.) over ice-covered waters. Picturesque Prince Edward Island offers a relaxing, safe, community oriented lifestyle for individuals and families who can appreciate beautiful scenery, wide open spaces, miles of uncrowded beaches and an endless variety of recreational activities. It is only a few hours away from larger centres such as Moncton, New Brunswick and Halifax, Nova
Scotia.
There are two major referral hospitals in the cities of Summerside and Charlottetown and five community hospitals on the Island located in O'Leary, Alberton, Tyne Valley, Montague, and Souris. The longest distance from a referral hospital is approximately 60 km. The community hospitals are staffed by general practitioners. Specialty physicians have admitting privileges at the two referral hospitals.
Due to the aging physician population, PEI is recruiting physicians for various positions. In all rural areas, there is an approved complement for a minimum of four general practitioners with a maximum of one in three call schedule. For a complete listing of positions available, visit Job Opportunities.
